// extraordinary dvd server
Free for Mac and Windows. Point it at your DVD folder, then watch your discs, real menus and all, in any web browser in the house.
The server brings its own player. Open its address in a web browser on a laptop, a tablet or a phone on your network, and you get the disc as it was made: the menus, their motion and music, scene selection, extras. The film plays in its original MPEG-2, decoded right in the page. Nothing is converted, and nothing leaves your house. On Apple TV and iPad, the Extraordinary DVD Player app (coming to the App Store) finds the server by itself.
The same server, built for Windows 10 and 11 on 64-bit Intel and AMD PCs, is being packaged now and will be here soon. (Not yet for Windows on Arm.)
| Computer | A Mac (Intel or Apple silicon, macOS 13 or later) or, soon, a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC. Kept awake while you're watching. |
|---|---|
| Your discs | DVDs you have backed up yourself, as VIDEO_TS folders or .iso images, on the computer or on a network drive it can see. |
| Players | Any modern web browser on your network. Apple TV and iPad with the app. |
| Network | Everything on the same local network. No internet connection needed. |
About your discs. Extraordinary DVD Server plays decrypted rips that you supply. It contains no copy-protection circumvention of any kind and will not rip discs for you.
Free and open source. The server is free software under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later. It includes libVLC, libdvdnav, libdvdread and FFmpeg.
