Extraordinary CD Server

Install it on one of your Macs. Insert a CD, and it shows up on your iPhone.

Version 1.0 · about 21 MB · Universal (Intel & Apple silicon) · macOS 12 or later · free, notarized. Nothing else to install.

Set it up

  1. Open the download and drag the app to Applications. Then open it from Applications. It appears in the menu bar as ✦ Extraordinary CD Server, with no Dock icon. Opened from anywhere else, it offers to move itself there.
  2. Allow the two prompts. Local Network, so phones at home can find it, and Music, so it can read CD names from Music.
  3. Sign in to iCloud on that Mac with the same Apple ID as your iPhone — that's what lets you play away from home. Google Drive is optional (Settings ▸ Link your Google account).
  4. Insert a CD, internal drive or USB. It appears on your phone.

MacIntel or Apple silicon.
DriveA CD drive, internal or USB.

Older Macs: a build for macOS 10.15 (for example a 2011 Mac mini) is coming, not ready yet.
